(I’ve been reworking and revising this all day omfgggg)
The complete papal lineage, as well as timespan served, of the Satanic Clergy is as follows:
41-426: Papa Thanatos 426-469: Papa Morte Nihil 469-1087: Papa Morte I 1087-1368: Papa Morte II 1368-2005: Papa Emeritus Nihil 2005-2013: Papa Emeritus I 2013-2014: Papa Emeritus II 2014-2016: Papa Emeritus III
Shortly after Saint Peter became the first pope, and the worship of God had begun to take off, Satan commanded his most powerful succubus to seduce a human male, eventually bearing his son, who would become Papa Thanatos, the first Papa, who organized a small yet loyal clergy in Greece.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Papa Thanatos had a child with a demon, who was to become Papa Thanatos I (The clergy begins each lineage with zero, rather than one). However, this child assassinated his own father, eager to change the course of the clergy and overtake Christianity. This young Papa chose the name Papa Morte Nihil, and brought his followers to Italy, where they built the first church of Satan.
Papa Morte Nihil once again gave birth to a half-demon, but was killed early on, presumably by his father’s vengeful spirit. He produced two twins, one daughter and one son, and the daughter (known as Mother Sanguis) would be the first Sister of Sin. The son would become Papa Morte I, known as one of the most influential Papas of the entire clergy. His work towards bettering the clergy prompted Satan to bestow upon him the power to summon ghouls, obedient, elemental demons who were bound by blood to serve the clergy. Papa Morte I took on a human prime mover, favoring her over all of the demons he was presented with. As he was succumbing to disease, he declared his son Papa Morte II.
Papa Morte II was by far the clergy’s cruelest Papa (and that’s saying something), trying to make up for his inferior demon blood with fear and terror. Not only did he terrorize the church’s enemies– he was somewhat of an enemy to the church. As punishment for this, Satan did not allow him to have a son to pass his papahood onto, allowing him only daughters until he was able to prove himself worthy of continuing the bloodline. Morte II sacrificed all of his daughters to Satan, eventually gaining his approval once more. Morte ironically also chose a human prime mover, who gave birth to the eventual Papa Emeritus Nihil.
The name “Emeritus” was chosen by the new Papa as he did not want to be associated with his father’s crimes against the clergy. Though his father is remembered fondly (most who opposed Morte II ended up dead anyway), and his father was always good to him, Nihil knew the horrible things his father had done, and wanted to turn over a new leaf in the clergy…
